The Via Lucana connects Tricarico and Matera in 6 stages, for a total of about 115 km and an average of just over 19 km per stage, to which a seventh stage between Albano di Lucania and Tricarico has recently been added.

However, my journey consisted of only 5 stages, and in the opposite direction: I started from Matera and arrived in Grassano for a total of about 100 km, and my account relates exclusively to this route.

As a result, the numbering of my stages is “backwards” compared to the classic direction that ends in Matera and is used by the official Materano Way website and guides.
